Description
La Petite Arvine is an autochthonous Valdostano vine on which the Les Cretes winery in Aymavilles has carried out an important enhancement work. La Petite Arvine is so called for the small berries that make up the bunch. Its paternity is still disputed between the Aosta Valley and Switzerland, although a research by the Swiss institute of Changin would show that the Petite Arvine now grown in Switzerland derives from the variety imported by the Orious, a family that experimentally collects all the native Valle d’Aosta strains. The Les Cretes winery has been making pure Petite Arvine since 1992, a time when its production was only just beginning. The grapes are grown in highly fragmented vineyards, with high planting densities due to the slopes of the land and on sandy soils that guarantee optimal conditions for the management of native vines. The enhancement of this terroir starts from careful management of the vineyards, with a substantial reduction by Les Cretes in the use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The key production area of the Petite Arvine is located on the hill opposite the Coteau La Tour, in a landscape essentially dominated by the arduous slopes of vineyards. In this extraordinary mountain territory, Les Cretes has created a unique relationship between the influences of natural agents and the development of Petite Arvine, giving life to a fresh and mineral wine, with an intense aromatic component and a marked roundness.
